‘DUAL’ – PITCH

Concept:

The concept of my short movie is to explore the human psyche and the deep-rooted natures that one person may be born with. Whilst, also exploring the love that one brother can have for the next.

Setting:

The beginning of Dual will take place in James’ bedroom with James narrating and filling the audience in on the backstory. Then the story will catch up to itself and begin happening chronologically. One scene will take place on the streets at night. Another will take place inside a house and the final location will be a garage.

Synopsis:

James, a 17-year-old recluse suffering from depression desperately wants answers to his brother, Jimmy’s, disappearance 6 years prior. However, with no missing persons case and only his mother’s word to go by James has little hope in finding his brother, dead or alive. After years of hunting on the internet for answers James decides to take actions into his own hands. He decides to hunt the local paedophiles for information on his brother’s fate. One night, whilst hunting for answers, James is approached by a man who he knows to be a convicted child molester, and lures him back to his house. When back, James wraps a plastic bag around the man’s head until he passes out and wakes secured to a wooden chair with a single light revealing him. From the darkness steps James, pistol in hand, and begins questioning the paedophile. Within minutes, the paedophile acknowledges to knowing James and even attended school with his mother. This is when James asks the question he so greatly wants the answer for, what happened to my brother? Confused, the paedophile answers by telling James that he at no time had a brother and that he always saw him by himself as a child, playing with his imaginary friend. That is when it hits him, he never had a brother, only another half to himself, one that was being suppressed by the very drugs his mother had been giving him all those years. Infuriated by his mother’s lies and deceit, something inside of James lets his even darker side take over, which results in two bullets being fired. One into his chest and another into his head. Killing James and Jimmy, for good.

Characters:

James Tarrant – 17-years-old, depressed, suffering from the loss of his brother and even more so at the apparent disconcert by everyone around him.

Jimmy Tarrant – James’ twin brother, disappeared when they were at the age of 9.

Paedophile (Kevin Heely) – Convicted child molester and associate of James and Jimmy’s mother.

James’ mother – A mother who wants to protect her child and move on from the loss of Jimmy. Struggles to aid James in his battle with depression.

Lighting:

The majority of ‘Dual’ will be shot in low lighting to emphasise the dark subject nature. Also, I will use special effects for the gun shot and practical effects for the bullet wounds.
